Radford Court is a family-oriented community of 400 townhomes for married students attending the University of Washington. Located on a wooded 25-acre site near Lake Washington, the project includes a community center and childcare facility. To minimizes the impact of Radford Court on neighboring residential community, careful thought was given to pedestrian paths, bicycle usage, and mass-transit opportunities.
A community green facing the family housing and framed by the 10,000 sf community center frames serves as a focal point and outdoor gathering area for the community. The buildings with their large front porches, verandas and chimneys lend a more public, community scale to the project. Abundant natural lighting and ventilation were achieved by the orientation and design of the buildings.
Worked performed while at Mithun.
