Old Blacksburg Middle School site is located in Blacksburg, Virginia on a large and prominent Main Street site located a few blocks from the Virginia Tech campus. The site is the visual Southern Gateway to downtown Blacksburg and meets the goals and vision of the Town of Blacksburg, creating a high-quality neighborhood for the Town. The project will be a mixed-use community and will include a new town library, police station, hotel and a community commons that is surrounded by active commercial uses. There will also be a variety of housing types that will include apartments, age-restricted housing and townhomes. The Town Commons will be a community gathering space for celebrations and event space. The urban plaza located at the main intersection on the corner of Main Street and Eheart, will serve as a gateway to the town. There is a pedestrian promenade that runs through the neighborhood starting at the plaza and running through the commons and to the east end of the site. Along the pedestrian promenade will be a large Central Park that will provide residents with active and passive recreational opportunities.
